Design Wall Monday - June 23, 2025 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Good Morning Quilters!

Today I am having cataract surgery on my left eye, as scheduled.  The right eye surgery went well two weeks ago, so please pray that today’s procedure goes well too.

The design wall has been actively used this week.  I finished the last of the appliquéd flowers on the border of The Cousin’s Walk quilt, and put it up there to take a picture of it.  This quilt is too big for my design wall!  Here are pictures taken this week before I send it to a long arm quilter:

This is such a happy ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

Yesterday was Father’s Day, and also our wedding anniversary.  We have been married 62 years!  It seems impossible, but there it is.  June 15, 1963……..to June 15, 2025…….and as in the story books, we have lived happily ever after.  I am so blessed.

Quiltwise, I have had another productive week.  First, the Cousin’s Walk appliqué quilt was worked on again, and I made progress on finishing up one of the border corners.  Here is a picture of my progress…..a yellow flower to sew down, and another leaf to add on the opposite ...

Good Morning Quilters!

This past week, I worked more on appliqué leaves and flowers for the Cousin’s Walk quilts.  I have one end of two of the borders yet to do, and am feeling the surge to finish it.  So glad that I am working on it again.

Here are the ends of two borders that are now finished:

The second project ongoing is the UFO of Log Cabin.blocks.  I made 10 more blocks that will finish at 7.5 inches square.  While sewing them, I wondered what little blocks would look like.  You know I like to ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

I worked a little bit this week on the unfinished border on Cousin’s Walk.  Slow and steady is the plan for this project, as somehow, I don’t want it to end.

Here are the two borders I am working on:

I have still been knitting dish cloths and tried a pattern that looks like herringbone.  I made one in turquoise and it was not the size I like, and I also made some mistakes in the pattern.   Then I tried another, but ran out of  yarn before finishing it.  I have started my third dish ...

Good Morning Quilters!

I just got home from a quilt retreat.  Each time I go, I work on blocks for a Jane Stickle quilt.  I cut the book “Dear Jane” apart, and have each of the book’s block picture by each of my blocks.  I am a little over half way making the 169 blocks for this quilt.  Here are the blocks I completed at the retreat:

The blocks finish at five inches each.  Since I got this UFO out to work on at the retreat, I think I will leave it out and work on it some more ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

My design wall is empty today, but I am nearing the end of an appliqué quilt.  The last time I posted about this quilt was in early February, and at that time, I was nearly finished with the borders.  See post (Here). For some unexplained reason, I quit working on it, and put it aside.  I don’t know why, but sometimes when I am very near the end of a quilt, I slow down.

Anyway, I am working on it again, and I am showing you here.  The larger tulip flower was only on one of ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

The Collection for a Cause - Community quilt is now sewn together into a quilt top.  Despite all my mistakes, I am happy to have it ready to be quilted.  It turned out to be 78” by 80”, almost square.  If I had cut the diamonds correctly, the kit should have resulted in a quilt that would be 69” by 83”.  So I am happy with it, in spite of  all the twists and turns,  If you want to know more, you could search my blog for previous posts in January, 2025.

Here is the quilt top on ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

I hope you had a great Valentines Day with your loved ones.  Here are some quilts that are out at our house this February.

Two over the railings of the stairs near the front door::

A doll quilt of toile fabric that matches the bigger quilt above:

Do you notice that I fussy cut the toile fabric so there are two of each bird?  I love birds and am enjoying the variety that are at the bird feeder outside my kitchen window.  Life is full of small pleasures.

I am nearing the corners of the Cousin’s ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

My design wall looks similar to last week, but I am making progress.  here is a picture:

The left side is all sewn together, and I am working on the rest of it.  It is going well, but I didn’t have time to work on it much this week.  Slow and steady will get the job done.

The Cousin’s Walk quilt is getting nearer the end….slow and steady applies to this one too.  I tried to appliqué one flower each day, and there are three more flowers to go before I get to the ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

Happy February to you.  My Cousin’s Walk borders are getting finished.  I am nearing the end, and try to appliqué one flower each day.  Here’s todays picture:  on left, the last two borders as they are now, and on the right, a picture of the same two borders from two weeks ago.  I am getting excited that the end is getting near!

The diamonds quilt on the design wall is coming along too.  I added the edge parts, and have about ten long strips of blocks sewn together, and also have a little bit in ...

Good Morning Quilters!

The two quilts I’m working on got some progress this week:

(1)  Collection for a Cause - Community is on the design wall, or at least 1/2 of it.  The blocks are now all adjusted to the same size, and here are all the solid diamonds for it.   I put the darks and lights into vertical rows.  Next, when they are all sewn, I’ll put up the four-patch diamonds into the blank spots.

As I am working on this quilt, I realized that since I cut all the diamonds shorter and fatter than the instructions ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

I divided the two long Cousin’s Walk quilt borders into 6 sections.  I have 2 sections appliquéd and decided I could do 1 of the four remaining sections each week in January to finish these two borders in four weeks.   Alas, I didn’t get much done this week, just a flower or two.  But I will work on it more this coming week, and see if I can get past the 3rd section of each of the two borders by next Monday.  Here is a picture of where I am right now:  (just one borders ...

Good Morning Quilters!  Can you believe this is the last Monday in 2024?  The next week will be a time of reflection on 2024 and making plans for what I hope to accomplish in 2025.

Here is the current status of the two long borders for the Cousin’s Walk quilt that I’m working on.    (pictured on the floor next to each other, but on the quilt they will be on the two sides)

If I work on this project a lot during January, I believe it will be completed by the end of the month.  I love it ...

  Merry Christmas!

My stockings are  hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon will be there…..in fact I have been visited by the man himself three times this month.  He assured me all three times that I am on his good list.

Here are the pictures of my three encounters with him.

At a restaurant in Lubbock, TX, early in December.

The second time, at Frankenmuth, MI while we dined at The Bavarian Inn.

Third time, right in my home!  He came with a cute elf to visit me and even stayed for dinner.

Re ...

Good Morning Quilters!

This week I worked a little more on two of the borders for Cousin’s Walk.  It looks like I blogged about these borders back in March, 2024.   Progress has been slow.  To refresh your memory, here is a picture of the original quilt:

The borders are unusual, and my version of them eliminates the center break in the vine on each side.  I am working on two borders at a time.  The original pattern has each of the four borders with different amounts of flowers.  But I decided to make mine a little less complicated.  Here ...

Good Morning Quilters!

This week I worked on more blocks for the Cousin’s Walk quilt.  There are 28 bird blocks and each block has a different bird in a different small tree.  Most of the trees have a few leaves and two or three flowers.  One of the block patterns I worked on this week had a tree with 15 leaves.  After appliquing 8 leaves, I decided to stop there and not add 7 more leaves.  Here is the block:

The second block finished this week is this one

It had only 4 leaves, which made it much easier ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

This is the last day in September, and there are only three more months in this year.  There are so many UFOs that I want to work on this year that I’m inspired to spend more time in my quilt studio.  Working on three projects this week

.  #1  The third quilt from the box of bowtie blocks.   Here is the proposed finish now on the design wall.   The green solid has a calming feel for me, and reminds me of the 30’s “nile green” color:

  #2. A project that I’m bring to a retreat ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

Well, some weeks are productive, and some are not.  This week was not.  Here is a picture of the start on my Cousin’s Walk borders, as it looks this morning:

And this is what it looked like last Monday morning:

But, I did fill out my NCAA tournament bracket, and watched a lot of basketball.  I am currently in 9th place in our family’s pool of 9 people.  Trivia for today:  My hubby and I were both basketball players in high school, and that was one of our common interests when we started dating back ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

This week has been a productive week for me - quilt wise.  Remember when I showed you a challenge quilt that some friends are making that was all hourglass blocks?  (Here). The blocks finish at two inches.  Here is my progress on my version:

My version has a combination of half-square triangles and hourglass blocks - all finishing at two inches.  I am not sure how big my quilt will grow, but I made progress in sewing block sets together of 36 hourglasses.  6x6 units.  Some more in progress here:

Also, besides making progress on this quilt, I started ...

 Good Morning Quilters!

This week two more blocks were completed for my Cousin’s Walk quilt.  I now have 18 finished and 10 more to do.

Here is a picture of the original quilt, to refresh your memory.

The borders are all different amounts of busyness and I’m planning to make them more cohesive and probably will eliminate the part where the two vines run off the middle of each side of the quilt.  I’m going to start on borders next.  It is such a whimsical quilt.  It will be fun to work on just flowers and leaves ...
